Sam Caligiuri is a partner with the Hartford office of Day Pitney, Connecticut's largest law firm, the same law firm that was Pratt & Whitney's legal team in regards to what Sam Caligiuri was just asked about. The last thing he wants to see is those jobs leave? Then why was his law firm representing the Defendant in the case between DISTRICT LODGE 26 v. UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION?
Healthcare is Coming
By Mark Nati
Finally Healthcare has made it through Congress and has become law. This is a big win for the people of the United States of America, small business and even big business. The insurance companies are also winners because they are going to get 32 million more customers without a public option. Here are some of the high lights. If you make 133% of the poverty level or less you get Medicaid. If your family income is between approximately $30,000 and $88,000 you will get help from the government to buy health insurance. If you want, you can buy health insurance from the health exchange that Congress uses because small businesses and individuals will be in a big pool of people so the cost will be less. Also insurance companies no longer can refuse to insure someone for a pre- existing condition and can not drop you when you get sick.
(What a concept - sick people can have health insurance). The two big ones for us is Pratt and Whitney will no longer have a loophole in the State law that allows them to turn their backs on the families that made our company great and will have to keep kids on the health plan until they are 26 years old and not just throw kids to the curb when they turn 19 if not in college even if the kid was very sick and needed the treatments they were on. The other big one is preventive care is free - no more co-pays.So we will see what Pratt does next. Will they just comply and how long will they make us wait for these new benefits? The right thing to do is put them in right away but Pratt does not always do the right thing especially when it comes to the law.
You can prove that by the two rulings of Judge Hall and all the fines the company has paid over the years. Back on healthcare - this was something we needed because the health insurance companies were out of control. And still a lot more needs to be done but this is an "OK" starting point. All we can do going forward is to force our lawmakers to follow the constitution and promote the health of all Americans. November is going to be important.Let our voices be heard!!!
POLITICAL UPDATE
By Mark Nati
President Obama has gotten most of the insurance companies to start the insurance for kids on July 1st and they have agreed not to drop kids that graduate in May and June. This finally applies to us here at P&W. Let’s face it we should have had this for our kids years ago. Because CT law mandates this but Pratt and Whitney refused to the right thing and though well paid for loophole they got out of it. On to immigration. It is obvious something must be done. The first thing that must be done is real penalties must be put in place for the employers who hire illegal immigrates and for the corporations who allow illegal worker to work on their property. Yes Wal-Mart was fined a lot of money for hiring illegal immigrates. However that is not a real penalty because they have so much money. A real penalty would be put the employer in jail for years not months and it needs to be mandatory. This should include CEO'S the whole broad of directors and even the person who hires a maid or house boy. Stop the jobs people will not come illegally. Then they need to roll back the immigration policy to what it was when my grandfather came though Ellis Island just after WW1. The only reason the laws changed was so corporations could exploit illegal immigrates, because they do not want to pay at least minimum wage. So this must be fixed and must be done at the federal level. The good thing is they have started to talk about it. On jobs we had our best month in 4 years in April. A lot still needs to be done especially with defense spending all of which should be done here in the US. And it is not ok for US contractors to outsource the manufacturing to place all over the world including COMMUNIST CHINA. This is wrong and must be stopped. Where is it going to stop overhauling engines, assembly and test? Anything to save a buck must be stopped. These companies doing this are acting like traders and should be treated as such. It is what it is and just because many lobbyists for these companies have made sure that there are loopholes in the law it is still treason and should be treated as such.
